For Journalists & Researchers
UFO Declassified is an independent archive organizing the declassified UAP records published at war.gov/UFO under the PURSUE initiative. Every claim on this site links to a source record. This page explains how to cite us, get the data, and what you may reuse.
How to cite this archive
Every document page carries a How to Cite block with its canonical URL — use that text directly. The general pattern:
For the full catalog in academic work, cite the versioned dataset instead:
Get the data
- Zenodo dataset (10.5281/zenodo.23854002) — versioned archive of record for the catalog; the concept DOI always points to the newest version.
- Catalog CSV (raw) — one row per record: agency, identifiers, dates, locations, summaries, file lists.
- All published versions — for pinning an analysis to an exact release of the data.
Verification policy
- Record pages are cross-checked against the official war.gov/UFO release files at ingestion; agency, date, and identifiers are transcribed, never inferred.
- First-look articles are published within roughly 48 hours of each tranche and are clearly labeled as initial reads; analysis articles state what the files show and what they do not.
- Corrections are made in place with the article's
updateddate bumped; substantive changes are noted in the text. If you find an error, write to the address below and we will fix or flag it promptly.
What you may reuse
- Underlying records (scans, photos, video, audio) are works of the U.S. government and are in the public domain (17 U.S.C. § 105). We serve them unmodified from the official releases.
- The document catalog (metadata, summaries, structured data) is licensed CC BY 4.0 — reuse with attribution to the Zenodo DOI.
- Article text and site copy are ours; quote excerpts with a link, and ask before longer republication.
