Apollo 12 Visual Media — Lunar Surface Anomalies, 1969

The image is a full lunar surface frame with the film's reseau crosses visible across it, a strip of film edge along the left and right sides, and long shadows falling across the foreground.

The yellow enlargement box was added for the release and is not part of the original photograph. It magnifies a very small vertical streak just above the horizon on the right side of the frame. At magnification the streak is blue with a reddish point near its lower end.

The streak is tiny relative to the frame, so its size, distance and nature cannot be determined from this image alone.

The release does not say what the streak is. Small colored marks near the edge of a scanned film frame can come from film defects, scan artifacts or optical effects, so the annotation is a claim to test rather than a finding.
